Over the years, society and culture have unconsciously shaped us. As members of society, we had been forced to think, dress and act within approved social norms. Even regarding our bodies, we are still unfortunately asked and motivated to have a specific body type. Today, we choose to overcome these “beauty standards” and learn to love ourselves, just the way we are. Tall or short, big or small, too risqué or too conservative; it doesn’t matter. What matters is yourself and your acceptance of your self - based on your own standards. Self-worth is not related to body image. Here are 10 tips to help you start loving yourself:
- Positive affirmations
The times we hate our bodies the most are when we stand in front of a mirror. Stick body positive notes on your mirror to remind yourself to love your body - such as, “I am enough”, “I am beautiful”. Say these affirmations out loud, as it is the most effective ways to practice self-love.
2. If you wouldn’t say it to your friends, don’t say it to yourself
When you are criticizing your body, think about what you are saying and whether you would say it to a friend. If the answer is “No” then don’t say it to your body! After all, our bodies are our best friends, we spend our whole time with them.
3. Think healthier, not skinnier!
Our bodies are much more than the number we see on the scale. When you exercise or plan your meals, don’t do it simply to decrease this number, it shouldn’t be a punishment. Exercise out of respect to your body and give it a healthy home. Your body can offer you a lot, enjoy it!
4. Do something nice for your body
Let your body know you appreciate it! Make time for a nap, find a peaceful outdoor space to relax or simply do a bubble bath. We recommend adding to those activities an aromatherapy touch – that’s what we always do! Our Lavender Essential Oil would be a great aromatherapy option:
- Apply 2-3 drops on your pillow before going to sleep in order to promote a restful night.
- Add 15 drops to a diffuser and enjoy a stress-free environment.
- Add 10 drops to a warm bath to relax your body and mind.
5. Don’t compare
There is absolutely no need to compare yourself to anyone else. Each person is unique and beautiful in their own way, even twins! Comparing yourself will only make you feel like you are supposed to look like someone else, but you should only look and feel like YOU!
6. Donate clothes that don’t fit, buy ones that make you feel gre
Work with your body, not against it! Instead of torturing yourself that you no longer fit in your favorite pair of jeans just donate it and buy a new one.
7. Surround yourself with positivity
Find a supportive and uplifting squad to spend time with. It is easier to feel good about yourself and your body when the people around you love you as you are and understand the importance of liking yourself as you naturally are.
A moisturized body is a happy body! Keeping the skin moisturized has always been a challenge, no matter what season of the year it is. Instantly soothing and relaxing, the mixture of Avocado oil, Grapeseed oil & Almond oil makes our Lavender Body Oil perfect to help restore your skin’s natural moisture barrier. The blend is topped with Lavender essential oil, known for its calming properties.
9. Make a list of things you love about yourself
We are always inclined to look at the negative things in ourselves and overlook the positives. Making a list of things you love about yourself and your body will make you aware of how great you are. Keep adding to that list and go back to it every time a negative idea about your body pops in your head.
10. Choose what to follow on social media
Pay attention to which accounts, images, messages bother you and simply unfollow them. Social media should be a place where you get to express yourself and navigate through fun/nice content, new ideas, new information that you love and that make you feel good.
Loving yourself is the greatest revolution!
